Janet Evans
One of the greatest distance swimmers of all time, Janet Evans is an athlete, author, spokesperson, and mother. Janet announced her comeback in early June and swam in her first meet in 16 years at the Janet Evans Invitational where she broke two Masters records in the 800m & 1500m freestyle. Janet is currently in training for the 2012 London Games, which would be her fourth Olympics.
Athlete, Author, Tv Personality and Sought after Speaker
Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans defied the odds when she beat competitors with her small stature and unorthodox windmill stroke. This natural-born swimmer competed against athletes who were bigger and stronger, and even some of whom had taken performance-enhancing drugs.
An avid swimmer since the age of two, Janet broke the world record in the 400 meter, 800 meter, and the 1,500 meter freestyle when she was just 15 years old. She went on to compete in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, bringing home both gold and silver medals.
Janet has also made great strides out of the pool, making a name for herself as a commercial spokesperson, author, and reality television personality. Published in 2007, her popular book Total Swimming offers fitness programs, workouts, and proper swim techniques to readers.
As a mother, highly respected motivational speaker, athlete, and author, Janet always puts forth her greatest effort and succeeds in whatever she puts her mind to. An inspiration to a wide range of audiences, Janet Evans remains a legendary athlete of her generation.
