Interview with D. Justhy

D. Justhy has been working with data for almost two decades. He lends his expertise to audiences worldwide, helping clients to make the most of this valuable asset. In this interview you can read about what got D. Justhy interested in data, as well as what inspires him and what a datapreneur is.

What got you interested in data?

I grew up watching my dad solve problems, as an electrical engineer.  Later in my life, I graduated with a Mechanical (Production) Engineering degree and later an MBA from the United Kingdom. During that period, I understood that the best companies are those with the disciplined use of their people, processes, as well as available technology. Interestingly, ‘data’ happened to connect the dots between them all and even serve the business strategy.  This fascinated me and I got interested in training myself on the topic.

As I matured as an entrepreneur, I gained the skill of evaluating an enterprise’s data and it’s data management practices, and then correlating that to it’s enterprise value and even potentially, the stock value. My Private Equity training at London Business School strengthened my understanding of driving valuations with data and related practices.

Today, I find the whole topic of ‘creating data as an asset,’ quite fascinating.  That has been my motivation for authoring the 2017 American Book Fest finalist in the business category, ‘The Billion Dollar Byte – Turn Big Data Into Good Profit. The Datapreneur Way.’

How much does humor factor into your keynotes and other speaking engagements?
My keynotes are usually centred around a couple hilarious anecdotes, which I love sharing with my audience.

How do audiences gain from your keynote presentations?
“Getting to Yes, Now!” has been the timeless secret of every great leader. In the digital age, purposeful leaders have an opportunity to improve their decision making capabilities by at least 100x, and this is only possible if there is an ‘ability to act on data’, to make those usually difficult or impossible decisions. The Datapreneur – is the most competent digital age leader. In these keynote presentations, you will know why and how.

Who or what inspires you most?
Nature inspires me the most. The grandeur and the simultaneous simplicity, fascinates me.

What makes your keynotes presentations unique?
“Getting to Yes, Now!” is my big idea. And, my big promise is that you can turn big data into good profits, in the digital age. These inspiring keynote speeches, will not just show you how powerful data can be to you and your organisation but will indeed show you how powerful YOU can be as an individual decision maker, regardless of your role. Cognisance of this, in these uncertain and turbulent times will make all the difference, whether it is multiplying the success of your teams, your company, your industry or indeed your whole world.

You’ve coined the term Datapreneur, what does this entail?
The Datapreneur – is the most competent digital age leader. Unlike in previous ages, leaders today have the potential to make better decisions than ever before. And this is only possible, when YOU the individual understands the value and the role of data in making decisions. To this end, the most critical digital age competency is ‘datapreneurship’. Individuals and organisations that nurture ‘the datapreneurship’ competency win, and those that don’t are likely to disappear.
