Interview with Christopher Barrat

Learn more about networking and successful eladership from one of our most popular speakers, Christopher Barrat. Read more below.

What is the message you hope people take away from your presentations?

That there are some really simple things that you can do which can make a major difference.

What is the feeling you would like people to take away?

Certainly some laughter! I want people to have enjoyed themselves and be inspired to do something to help themselves be more effective

How do you prepare for speaking engagements?

The key to this is talking to the client to really understand what their audience wants to learn.

What do you gain personally from being a public speaker?

You cannot believe the satisfaction I get if someone contacts me later and says ‘ that was really helpful – I knew I should have been doing some of those things – and now I do!’

How much does humor factor into your keynotes and other speaking engagements?

Only most of the time!

What are the top three lessons within the field of commerce that people should be aware of, and which you elaborate upon in your speeches?

1. We are all humans, whatever our position, location, rank or religion. And ultimately humans do business with humans

2. Listen to your intuition as well as your head – if you feel something is not right then take time to work out the issue

3. In these days of complex relations, focus as much on ‘how’ you do things as ‘what’ you do. Being right is not enough, you need to think about doing things the right way as well.

How are your keynote presentations unique?

I use a lot of personal experience – I am pretty sure I am the only one who knows that!

Do you have any unique memorable moments in your speaking career?

Yes – getting 400 rather old fashioned businessmen ( it was 90% men!) to blow up balloons and then let them go during a speech – in fact they loved it.

Can you give three critical attributes for successful leadership?

1) Know yourself really well

2) Know your people really well

3) Make sure you use that knowledge so you are leading your people in the way they like, not the way you like
