How did you begin your speaking career?
I started in college. Two speakers really encouraged me! One by the name of Keith Davis and the another guy name Clarence Lee. They both came to speak at my college at University of Houston. They inspired me and my wife that day! That next year they became my mentors. After my first speaking engagement I noticed the impact I could make. I’ve always wanted to get involved and make a change in the world, and speaking does that!
What do you feel is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?
The biggest challenge I’ve overcome thus far is doing the opposite of what statistically society said I would. Meaning that because my parents went to prison, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice there was a “70%” chance I should’ve been in prison too.

I would say strong, resilient, and loving.
Who or what inspires you most?
Although I can’t speak about it at schools (and I don’t), God inspires me the most to make a difference in this world.
Do you have a favorite experience from you’re speaking career?
I have many, but one young lady told me after the program that she sees the light. I quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he said “darkness cannot drive out darkness, but only light can do that”. At the end of the program she gave me a note that said, “I see the light, I won’t commit suicide”. What was so significant was I was not allowed to speak about suicide. I never mentioned suicide once.
