Chantal Hébert is a national affairs columnist with the Toronto Star and a guest columnist for L’actualité – two of Canada’s leading publications. She is a weekly participant on CBC’s At Issue, Canada’s most-watched political panel, on Les Coulisses du Pouvoir, which provides in-depth analysis of current political issues, and on Montreal’s Gravel le matin on Radio-Canada.

Chantal Hébert is a graduate of Glendon College, York University. She is a Senior Fellow of Massey College at the University of Toronto and holds ten honorary degrees from Bishops University, York University, University of Western Ontario, Concordia University, University of Manitoba, Mount Saint Vincent University, Collège Boréal, Loyalist College, University of Alberta, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Hébert first covered Parliament Hill for Radio-Canada, and subsequently served as parliamentary bureau chief for Le Devoir and La Presse. In 2006, she received the Hy Solomon Award for excellence in journalism and public policy, as well as York University’s Pinnacle Achievement Bryden Alumni Award. Chantal Hébert is also the recipient of two Asia-Pacific media fellowships for Malaysia and Japan.

Recognized as one of Canada’s most fearless political journalists, Chantal Hébert received high praise for her second book The Morning After: The 1995 Quebec Referendum and the Day that Almost Was (2014), in which she and Jean Lapierre expose the details of a defining episode in Canadian political history. The book became a #1 national bestseller, won the QWF Mavis Gallant Prize for Nonfiction, and was nominated for two other awards.

In 2014, Hébert won a National Magazine Award (gold) for her political column in L’actualité. She is an officer of the Order of Canada.
