Claude Gueant is a graduate of the Paris Law School, the Paris Institute of Political Science, and the National School of Administration, which selects and trains the French high-ranking civil servants.

A member of the conservative Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), Claude has been a vice governor as well as governor of several regions. Between 1994 and 1998, he was the head of the french National Police and Interior Intelligence services. Then, for 9 years, he was the chief of staff of Nicolas Sarkozy, when Nicolas was minister of the Interior, minister of Finance, and President of the French Republic. In 2011 and 2012, Claude himself served as Interior minister, while also working as a lawyer and president of a private group registered in London. As a political figure, Claude is accustomed to dealing with touchy issues, such as the world economic crisis of 2008, as well as relations with Khadafi and with Bachar Al Assad.
