In 1980, Dale started her own business, which, under her leadership, became one of the UK’s leading and best performing training providers. Then, in 2012, Dale founded The Principle Department, where she designs and delivers services (coaching, mentoring and speaking) tailored to her clients needs.

A charismatic speaker, Dale has contributed significantly to the development and growth of many organisations and thousands of people. Who or what inspires you most?
So many people and things. But if I have to choose I’d say, human potential and the power of the human spirit. Anyone who demonstrates the ability to overcome adversity or create and achieve things that make their life, their place of work or the world a better place for everyone to live in.

Which of your keynotes is most popular/well received?
Being well received starts way before I step onto any platform. It’s understanding exactly what each client is looking for or wants to achieve by engaging a speaker. Then I can recommend the most appropriate keynote for them and ensure I add maximum value to their event. If that’s done, you can pretty well guarantee it’ll always be well received. Then again, if I have to pick, I’d say “It’s Tough At The Top – But What About Your Bottom?” is universally a winner.

What is the most unique experience you have had as a result of your job?
I’ve never thought of my professional life as a job or career but more as a personal mission and it’s led to a few unique experiences that I never imagined I’d have. For instance, being invited to Buckingham Palace and Downing Street in recognition of my work. Although the experience I love the most, is the buzz of meeting someone who says something like, “You changed my life”, “It was because of you that I started my own business” or “I love your book and carry it everywhere.” That’s endlessly satisfying and unique because it’s come from an individual.

Why do clients typically hire you to speak?
Usually it’s because they’ve been recommended by another satisfied client, they’re specifically looking for a female, business speaker or something a bit different in terms of style of delivery.

What has been the best experience of your career?
The life it’s enabling me to lead and making a difference to other people by enabling them to realise their own potential, achieve their goals and grow the businesses they own and work in. I get particularly excited about small and medium-sized businesses – the Saviours of the Nation as I call them – because they’re the ones promoting innovation, generating new jobs and driving the economy.

What are 3 tips you would give for achieving success?

  • Most importantly, make sure you define what ‘success’ means to you, enjoy the day to day activity it’s going to take to get you there and make it fun.
  • Keep learning all the time and realise that we’re all our own greatest asset and also our own biggest liability.
  • Remember that ‘overnight success’ is largely a myth. So be persistent and stick at it when the going gets tough, because if it was easy everyone would be doing it, and they’re not. Plus, if it was easy, there’d be less satisfaction in having achieved it at all.
