About The Cold War

  • The Cold War was the conflict between The USA and The Soviet Union which lasted from the end of World War II and until 1991 with the end of The Soviet Union.
  • The conflict was political and ideological rather than directly military, between the then two superpowers, The USA and The Soviet Union and their allied countries; NATO and The Warsaw Pact.
  • On a number of occasions the conflict came close to actual nuclear war such as during the Cuba Crisis of 1962, in the late sixties and early seventies relating to The Vietnam War, and in the early eighties when both sides produced more and more nuclear weapons.
  • Keynote speakers on The Cold War typically choose a historical and political focus, combined with military and cultural analyses, delving into how The Cold War affected media and popular culture as well.
