About Tourette Syndrome
- Tourette syndrome, sometimes shortened TS, is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder which is characterized by multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic.
- Tourette syndrome is found in both children and adults, but the the diagnosis is most commonly given to children, and more often in men than in women. The disorder always has its onset in childhood.
- Tourette's was once considered a rare and bizarre syndrome, most often associated with the exclamation of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks, but this symptom is present in only a small minority of people with Tourette's.
