Keynote by Jens Voigt:
Over the years, and through countless discussions, I have learned that conflicts are inevitable and they don’t always have to be negative. Conflicts challenge us to question and justify our own opinions. This process makes us stronger and gives us greater confidence when facing the next conflict.
For me, team building means “leading by example.” The team must see that I never demand anything I am not willing to do myself. Winning and losing together, celebrating victories as a group, and rising again after setbacks, that is the essence of a strong team.
Leadership also means surrounding yourself with great people, entrusting them with important responsibilities, and relying on their strengths. In my view, leadership is the exact opposite of micromanagement.
Keynote by Jens Voigt:
Over the course of 33 years as a professional athlete, Jens Voigt covered approximately 850,000 kilometers on the bike, that’s the distance from Earth to the Moon and back, plus halfway to the Moon again.
During his career, he experienced around 100 crashes, both major and minor, suffered three collarbone fractures, and still carries metal screws in both hands. In addition, he received more than 120 stitches to treat injuries and scars from racing incidents.
When Jens speaks about mindset and resilience, he draws on real-life experiences and knows exactly what he is talking about.
Keynote by Jens Voigt:
As a professional cyclist, Jens Voigt not only climbed the steep mountain passes of the Alps but also raced down them at incredible speeds. His highest recorded speed on a racing bike was 119 km/h, leaving little time to make decisions.
Almost every decision he made played out live on television. His contracts were always limited to one or, at most, two years, making it crucial to make the right choices, execute them effectively, and stand by them, even in the face of doubt.
Eighteen years as a self-employed professional cyclist taught Jens invaluable lessons about making decisions and, more importantly, taking responsibility for them.
Keynote by Jens Voigt:
Born and raised in East Germany, Jens Voigt came through the state sports school system and, at the age of 18, witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. He experienced the reunification of Germany as well as two currency unions firsthand.
His international career began as an amateur with the Peace Race, often referred to as the “Tour de France of the Eastern Bloc” and culminated after 18 years with a record-setting 17 participations in the Tour de France. At the age of 43, Jens officially ended his professional cycling career.
Today, Jens is married to his wife Stephanie, with whom he shares six children. The family lives in Berlin.
