Alex Depledge has never followed the expected path. Growing up in Bradford as the daughter of a carpet salesman, she has spent her life proving that background does not define ambition or outcome. Today, she stands as one of the most prominent entrepreneurial voices in the UK, known for building, scaling and exiting businesses while speaking openly about the realities behind success.
Her journey into entrepreneurship was not accidental. After studying at the University of Nottingham and the University of Chicago, Alex began her career at Accenture, focusing on retail and energy. She quickly rose through the ranks, gaining deep insight into how large organisations operate. Still, the pull toward building something of her own proved stronger, leading her to step into the startup world.
Building and exiting Hassle.com
In 2014, Alex co-founded Hassle.com, a marketplace for domestic cleaning services that rapidly became Europe’s largest in its category. Within less than two years, the business expanded across four countries and generated more than £8 million in revenue. The company’s growth and clear market positioning led to a successful exit at €32 million.
This experience shaped Alex’s understanding of scaling businesses at speed, building teams, and navigating the realities of high-growth environments. It also gave her a clear view of how technology can reshape traditional industries, something that continues to define her work today.
CEO of Resi and housing innovation
Today, Alex is the co-founder and CEO of Resi, the UK’s largest residential architectural firm. The company focuses on using technology to simplify and improve the process of home extensions and renovations. At its core, Resi addresses a larger issue: how housing can better meet the needs of modern life.
Alex is deeply engaged in the conversation around what makes homes functional, healthy and future-ready. She challenges the construction industry and public discourse for overlooking what people actually need from their living spaces. She co-authored Labour’s “Start-Up, Scale-Up” report in 2023 and contributed to the UK Government’s taskforce on Women-Led High Growth Enterprises between 2022 and 2023.
