10.13.2014 Interview with Jackie Freiberg
What is the message you hope people take away from your presentations?
Leadership is a choice, it is not a title, not a position, not a chip you insert or the DNA your born with, it is CHOICE and we are all called upon countless times in a day to choose leadership. The takeaways are countless strategies for re-engineering and re-building your leadership brand
What is the feeling you would like people to take away?
We want people to FEEL motivated and inspired to actually change. Leadership brand building is a journey, its about making purposeful choices each day on how to focus your time and attention. The feeling we inspire is “I WANT to do this, I can choose to become a gifted, gutsy leader.” We want the feeling to transition into movement, behavior change.
How do you prepare for speaking engagements?
Time on the phone with the client, pouring over everything they share and we find online. Our end goal is to use the clients language and fuel their ability achieve goals, objectives and business strategies through new learnings, best practices and stories we share.
What do you gain personally from being a public speaker?
Leaders and life long learners inspire us! Learning and leading is contagious… We are motivated by people who are willing to stretch, grow and develop! Our audiences draw us up.
How much does humor factor into your keynotes and other speaking engagements?
Humor is bonding, humor is contagious, humor is leveling, humor is critical to creating chemistry with an audience. We use “appropriate” humor to accomplish all of the above.
What factor does culture play in the workplace?
Culture determines everything! All of our books speak to the POWER of workplace culture. Culture is the spirit, the heart, the minds, and the motives of people played out in 1000’s of interactions each and everyday. Culture will attract or distract. Culture must be purposeful, yet so many workplaces cultures are accidental. Culture should be the mission, vision and VALUES lived out loud by people in all places at ALL levels.
How are your keynote presentations unique?
We are bestselling authors who spend time in the companies and with the leaders we write and speak about. Our stories and strategies are so deeply rooted in us that they leak out. Our keynotes are loaded with stories, b/c recall on stories is over 300%, we want people to go away and share what they’ve heard, that is when change happens.
Do you have any unique memorable moments in your speaking career?
Yes, flight was delayed, helicopter picked me up and flew me from the airport across town to the event location I was mic’d in the parking lot, rushed on stage and my presentation was telecast to various remote locations around the world…..a ONCE in a life time experience to share with the world!
