For decades, software architecture has been a discipline of deterministic reasoning: define the boundaries, model the invariants, predict the behaviour. Generative AI breaks that contract. We are now shipping systems whose outputs we cannot fully specify, embedded inside systems we absolutely must control.
This keynote argues that the architect's role is not diminished by AI, it is sharpened. We will look at harness engineering as the structural response to non-determinism, and at how sensors and guides, applied through the lens of strategic Domain-Driven Design, give architects a way to bound and steer AI-infused systems at the seams that matter most.
The closing question is the one architects should be asking themselves now: where do we sit inside these feedback loops, and what decisions remain unmistakably ours?
