Creator of Ultimo, award winning entrepreneur

Keynote speaker Michelle Mone, Lady of Mayfair OBE, is the founder of Ultimo Brands International, the UK’s leading designer lingerie brand. Listed as one of the top three female entrepreneurs in the UK,  Michelle has built a hugely successful career on an incredibly simple concept: giving today’s women what they want. Her vision is to “help women to look and feel their very best”. It was upon that simple concept Baroness Mone built her career and influence, being honoured with a Life Peerage to the House of Lords by the Prime Minister and an OBE from Her Majesty the Queen for her outstanding contributions to business.

Entrepreneurial spirit was prevalent from an early age in Michelle Mone, who grew up in the east end of Glasgow. Michelle left school at 15 with no qualifications to find full-time employment, after her father was struck down by an illness leaving him confined to a wheelchair. To support her family, Michelle took on a job at Labatt Brewers’ and quickly climbed the ranks from office junior to senior manager, running the Sales & Marketing team by the time she was just 20 yrs old.

It was in 1996 when her idea for Ultimo was born. Whilst attending a dinner dance with her husband Michael, Michelle was wearing a very uncomfortable cleavage enhancing bra and as a result had a ‘light bulb’ moment; Michelle Mone decided to invent a bra that was more comfortable and cleavage enhancing than any other bra on the market. Since launching the business, visionary speaker Michelle Mone has established herself as one of Scotland’s biggest exports. In 2000 Michelle won the ‘World Young Business Achiever Award’ at the Epcot Centre, Florida, and then ‘Business Woman of the Year’ at the Corporate Elite Awards in London.

Over the years Michelle’s business has gone from strength-to-strength, developing beyond the original umbrella of Ultimo to encompass eleven patented “Miracle” inventions and brands including Ultimo Boudoir, Ultimo Swimwear, Ultimo Shapewear, Miss Ultimo and partner lines including Diamond Boutique for Tesco, Adore Moi for Debenhams and Michelle for George for Asda, named after her. She has expanded into womenswear with Ultimo Couture, a line of luxury evening dresses and bridal wear with Ultimo Couture Bridal, a collection of ‘off the rail’ wedding dresses exclusive to Debenhams.

Lady Michelle Mone’s success has soared; not only was Ultimo the first UK lingerie brand to debut on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week in 2009 but she has opened 23 ‘shop in shops’ within Debenhams in key cities throughout the UK and landed a mammoth deal with Tesco clothing to develop, design and manufacture ‘Diamond Boutique’ lingerie.

In 2015, after a year of research and crafting, Michelle Mone launched her first jewelery collection with Diamonique for QVC. Michelle’s profile is ever expanding and she travels throughout the UK, Europe and as far as South Korea and Vietnam with her speaking engagements. Back in the UK, Michelle motivates individuals through her mentoring programmes.

In her private life, Michelle has weathered a challenging few years. She has bounced back from an acrimonious divorce and fought to retain her business, buying her ex-husband out of the company and doing it alone. Michelle has since forged a partnership with global lingerie giants MAS Holdings, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of intimates with a $1.4 billion turnover and 63,000 employees. In 2015, it was time for Michelle to take the plunge and reveal her private life to the public in her autobiography: “My Fight to the Top”, now available to purchase and number one in three Amazon charts.

The keynote speaker Michelle Mone has recently ventured into the development of luxury apartment towers in Dubai, as well as launching a cryptocurrency investment platform and an business and lifestyle app. April 2018 also saw Michelle giving an impassioned speech focusing on the Obesity Health Epidemic in the UK.
