Leadership shaped by real experience

Raquel Eatmon’s approach to leadership has been tested across very different environments. During more than a decade in television news, she learned to ask better questions, read people quickly and look beyond the obvious to uncover what others might miss.

She later brought those skills into entrepreneurship and hospitality when she took on a struggling restaurant. Through disciplined leadership, team development, exceptional guest experience and a strong focus on people, she transformed the restaurant into a seven-figure business within just 12 months.

These experiences shaped Raquel’s belief that effective leadership requires more than having the right answers. It requires the curiosity to explore different perspectives, the courage to make decisions when the path is unclear and the ability to turn insight into meaningful action.

Building her own room

Raquel’s leadership story is also deeply influenced by the women who raised her. Her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed down lessons in self-reliance, courage and creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to appear.

Those lessons became particularly important as Raquel navigated spaces where she was not always invited into the rooms where decisions were being made. Instead of waiting for a seat, she learned to build rooms of her own.

That philosophy ultimately led her to establish a nationally recognized women’s leadership conference that ran for 11 years. The platform brought together high-potential women, corporate leaders and senior executives to explore the decisions, behaviors and skills required to translate leadership potential into organizational and community impact.

Corporate supporters and participants included NASA Glenn Research Center, KeyBank, Samsung, Vitamix and Sherwin-Williams, alongside other national and regional organizations. Over more than a decade, Raquel created an environment where women across industries could learn from one another, strengthen their leadership and consider what they wanted to create next.
