Entrepreneurship, community, and building businesses that matter

Sam Davidson is a business leader who believes success is deeply connected to the strength of community. As CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, he leads one of the most active nonprofit startup ecosystems in the US, supporting thousands of founders each year. A four-time entrepreneur, Sam has founded and scaled purpose-driven companies, led a national brand through acquisition, and helped raise millions to support entrepreneurs. On stage, he delivers clear, grounded insights on entrepreneurship, leadership, and building organizations that last.

Sam Davidson and the Power of Community

Sam Davidson’s work is built on a simple but proven belief: the height of success is directly related to the depth of community. From his earliest ventures to his current role as CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Sam has consistently shown how strong networks, shared values, and intentional collaboration fuel sustainable growth. His perspective resonates with founders, executives, and organizations looking to move beyond short-term wins toward lasting impact.

From Startup Founder to Four-Time Entrepreneur

Sam began his entrepreneurial journey in 2006 when he founded Cool People Care, a media and merchandise company that used emerging technology to connect people with causes and nonprofits in their local communities. Through eco-friendly and cause-related products, the company raised more than $125,000 for initiatives ranging from disaster relief to hunger awareness.
Following this success, Sam went on to co-found three additional companies and initiatives. One of the most notable was Batch, a national gift and retail business designed to connect entrepreneurs with new customers. Batch sourced products from small businesses across the United States, giving customers a meaningful way to share a sense of place and support local makers. In 2022, Sam led Batch through an acquisition by a private equity group, adding a successful exit to his entrepreneurial track record.

Championing Small Businesses Nationwide

In 2020, during a period of immense pressure on local companies, Sam founded SmallBusinessPledge.org to raise awareness about the vital role small businesses play in communities across America. The initiative highlighted the economic and social impact of small enterprises, especially as many were forced to close permanently due to COVID-19. This work further cemented Sam’s reputation as a leader who understands both the human and financial sides of entrepreneurship.

Leading the Nashville Entrepreneur Center

Sam became CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center in July 2023, taking on leadership of a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to making Nashville one of the best places to start and grow a business. Under his leadership, the EC supports entrepreneurs through world-class programming, mentorship, and a vibrant membership community.
To date, the EC has worked with more than 14,000 entrepreneurs who have collectively raised $300 million in capital, generated over $400 million in revenue, and achieved more than $100 million in exits. The organization is now executing an ambitious three-year plan to help 1,000 entrepreneurs each year start or grow a business. This vision is powered by a growing endowment, committed mentors, and an expanding alumni network of founders who give back.

Results, Recognition, and Real Impact

The EC’s community currently includes more than 300 active entrepreneurs, with accelerators graduating over 200 founders annually. Sam has played a key role in growing the organization’s endowment to more than $5 million in commitments, ensuring long-term support for its most ambitious entrepreneurs.
Sam’s leadership has earned him recognition as a “Most Admired CEO” by the Nashville Business Journal on two occasions. His work and companies have also been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times, Southern Living, The Boston Globe, NPR, and USA Today.

Keynotes

Keynote by Sam Davidson:

The One Thing AI Can’t Do: How to build community like a human

AI can optimize systems, analyze behavior, and scale faster than any team in history. But there’s one thing it can’t do: create real human connection.

And that’s where your advantage lies (as a human).

People don’t leave bad companies. They leave lonely ones. Organizations that win today and endure tomorrow aren’t just data-driven; they’re relationship-driven. They understand that belonging fuels performance, trust accelerates growth, and community outperforms strategy when times get hard.

In this high-energy, insight-packed keynote, Sam Davidson makes a compelling case for  why human-to-human connection is the last true competitive advantage. Drawing on real- world examples from high-performing organizations, Davidson shows how leaders who  intentionally invest in community - among employees, customers, investors, and partners - outpace those who focus solely on metrics and technology.

Attendees will discover why community delivers ROI that can’t always be captured on a spreadsheet (your CFO may cringe, but your culture will thrive), and how belonging, not perfection or scale, is the real growth engine. Davidson breaks down the three essential building blocks of strong community (safety, growth, and meaning) and demonstrates how leaders can intentionally design each into their organizations.

This keynote goes beyond inspiration. Participants leave with practical tools, repeatable habits, and clear language to advocate for community at the board level, within teams, and across customer relationships.

Because in a world increasingly powered by AI, the organizations that go farther, faster will be the ones that double down on what makes us human.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Apply core leadership principles that prioritize human connection in a business environment
  • Understand and articulate the three ways to measure the ROI of community
  • Establish routines and expectations that reinforce belonging across teams and stakeholders
  • Adopt key managerial habits that build and sustain deep community
  • Communicate organizational vision as a powerful tool for recruiting talent and customers
  • Recognize why choosing community isn’t soft, it’s strategic

The best time to invest in human connection was yesterday. The second best time is now.
