Originally anthropology set out to study so-called strange or alien cultures by which was usually meant non-western cultures. Thu the focus was often various kinds of African and Asian cultures.

Modern anthropology is a far richer field of study that recognises culture as a term with multiple meanings and definitions hence the many different aspects of anthropology.
