Dr. Adjoa B. Asamoah is a lifelong racial and gender equity champion whose work has reshaped policy, culture, and institutions at the highest levels. An accomplished executive and internationally sought-after power player, she has worked across industries and sectors for nearly three decades. Her career is defined by turning equity from an aspiration into enforceable policy, sustainable systems, and real-world outcomes.
Widely known as “The CROWN Act Champion,” Adjoa conceptualized, developed, and led the national legislative and coalition-building strategies behind the CROWN Act movement. Working on behalf of the CROWN Coalition she co-created, she transformed a bold idea into a national force that outlawed racial hair discrimination in 23 states and counting. She also spearheaded the legislative victory to codify the nation’s first Office of African American Affairs, correcting historic gaps in representation and governance.

Adjoa’s expertise has been called upon at pivotal moments in American history. She served as the National Advisor for Black Engagement for the 2020 Biden-Harris Campaign and later as the Black Engagement Director for the historic 59th Presidential Inaugural Committee. She currently serves in yet another unprecedented role as Senior Advisor for Racial Equity to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary, becoming the only person to ever hold that title in the federal government.
Previously, she served as Senior Policy Advisor in the Executive Office of the Mayor of Washington, DC, where she led the economic empowerment portfolio and built both high-profile and grassroots stakeholder coalitions to advance policy change. A longtime advisor to local, state, and federal officials, Adjoa has partnered with more members of Congress and state legislators than can be counted, earning a reputation as a go-to bridge-builder across the African diaspora and beyond.

She chaired the Democratic National Committee’s African American Leadership Council for five years and worked with the DNC across multiple election cycles. Her client and advisory work includes organizations such as the DCCC, NDRC, Third Way, and EMILY’s List, as well as governments and political leaders at every level.

A former adjunct professor, Dr. Asamoah has taught African history, African American Studies, and psychology. She has served as faculty at the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, where she trained emerging leaders at the intersection of policy and public service.
A licensed clinician and veteran corporate consultant, Adjoa coaches Fortune 500 executives on race and enterprise risk management, purpose-driven marketing, and corporate social responsibility. She leverages cultural intelligence and behavioral insights to design winning political and public policy campaigns, create sustainable systems change, and predict consumer behavior with precision.

Her service includes roles with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, DC Commission for Women, Temple University, DC Commission on African American Affairs, and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Incorporated.
She has also been appointed by multiple superintendents to the District of Columbia’s State Title I Committee of Practitioners and was nominated and reelected chair for ten consecutive years. Across every role, she is known for governance that is both principled and pragmatic.
Education and Global Perspective
A proud two-time graduate of Temple University, Adjoa earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and African American Studies, along with a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. She holds a post-master’s certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from Saint Joseph’s University and multiple professional licenses, including as a behavior specialist.
Her global perspective was shaped as an international student studying abroad at the University of Ghana at Legon. She completed the UPENN Equity Institute for Doctoral Students at the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education and earned her doctoral degree in Leadership: Education Administration & Policy Studies from The George Washington University, successfully defending her dissertation in January 2024.
