Too different to be accepted, she had a very difficult start in life. Gradually, she figured out what skills could help her fit in and started acquiring them. Life continued to be unusual and challenging, with too many surprising turns. She discovered she had a gift for languages, learned a dozen, and became a highly sought-after interpreter. Joining a choir, she was told her voice was far better than average and she retrained to work as an opera singer. Her subsequent jobs were in cybersecurity, coaching and stand-up comedy. She wrote a book, "Introverts Make Better Networkers", learned public speaking and won awards for it. She developed a distinctive style: joyful, creative and intriguing.
In 2024, in the questions section of a fireside chat about neurodiversity, Beatrice stood up and said, "so the world has changed, is seems to be ok to say who you are. I am autistic, this is the first time I'm saying it, I've been masking throughout my life and it's been working well, but now I see I have never lived as myself. I have never lived as the true me." What followed was a lot of tears and a keynote on autism from a personal perspective: to help parents understand autistic behaviours better, and to make employers aware of the huge benefits of autistic features that are not so obvious at first glance.
Her extraordinary life is a proof that it is possible to deactivate restrictive labels, to fight the common opinion that "you're too weird, you don't belong". And it is never too late to start again. Being different is not a disadvantage; having a disability does not determine how far you can get.
Beatrice spent many exhausting years painstakingly acquiring the skills that autists don't have: to be very good at communicating, comedy and networking, to move her body well. It took hundreds of attempts, failure, figuring out what needs to be done, applying, failing, despairing, picking up and trying again.
Often called a role model and an inspiration, she believes that her mission is to help others feel less disconnected and less alone. She simplifies, clarifies and demystifies - in an exciting and uplifting way. What you will get: "a relatable, thought-provoking evening; moving, engaging and funny, with a unique energy."
