Keynote by Joel Bryant:
Joel Bryant took a non-linear path to both personal and professional success. Early in his career, he tried to fit into somebody else's mold of what an actor, comedian or emcee should be. It was only years later that he discovered his "authentic self" and began doing what he loved to do, which led him to loving what he did. That clicked! So many times we find somebody else's lane and stay in it. But what if we paved our own paths? What if every wall put up before us just gave us something to go around or over? What if we simply did what we loved? We may not become billionaires, but what if we pursued satisfying the soul instead? Then everything else that we achieve thereafter would simply be icing on a beautiful cake we've baked ourselves.
This became particularly clear to him during Covid when all live events, everything he did professionally, shut down. Instead of mourning the loss of work, he put his creative mind to work and toured the country capturing the shutdown on film and turning it into the award-winning documentary "Empty America."
If someone gives you a goal, or an obstacle, as long as you're productive, proactive, positive, take some risks and think outside the box, anything is achievable.
Keynote by Joel Bryant:
Joel Bryant was grinding it out on the stages of Los Angeles, New York and the road across the US doing what he loved: standup comedy. Making people laugh. Spreading smiles. However, 8 years ago, on a trip to Paris, he hopped on a stage at an "English Comedy Night" and that has significantly altered his career - and life! - trajectory. The more people he met, the more cities he visited, the more stages he got on, the more diverse the audiences became.
However, something incredible happened: He realized everybody has a common thread of just wanting to experience joy. He's been on stages in front of a multitude of nationalities all in the same room, with varying levels of English comprehension, and he's had to make them all laugh using the English language. As he fine-tuned his approach, the barriers and borders between his audience members began to melt away. From shows in such diverse cities as Berlin, Taipei, Istanbul, Sarajevo, Cabo San Lucas, Singapore, Belgrade, Lisbon and so many others, the thing that bonds us the most, makes us work cohesively, is that we are far more similar than we are different.
