I am pleased to write this letter of reference on behalf of Mr. Shawn Harper, whose work at Lima North has had a measurable and positive impact on both students and staff. Since joining our building for the 2025–2026 school year, Shawn has brought a high level of commitment, consistency, and relationship-based support that has resulted in noticeable improvements in student behavior, engagement, and overall school culture. Shawn’s work with students is rooted in connection, accountability, and growth. He is highly visible and accessible in the building, forming trusting relationships with students who often struggle the most in traditional settings. Through mentoring, goal-setting, and restorative practices, he helps students develop ownership of their choices, self-regulation skills, and a stronger sense of personal responsibility. As a result of his consistency and weekly student challenges, we have seen a reduction in office referrals among the students he works with, as he regularly encourages them to meet personal goals and “finish the week referral-free.” In addition to his work with students, Shawn has taken a leadership role in supporting staff development through monthly professional development sessions. These trainings have been extremely well received by teachers and support staff, many of whom have shared that they finally feel they are receiving PD that is real, practical, and grounded in strategies they can immediately implement. Staff regularly share that Shawn is the first presenter who not only explains the “what” and “why,” but also models the “how” — while also equipping them with life skills and mindset tools that translate directly into better classroom relationships. Shawn is a winner — he goes above and beyond for both students and staff to make success possible. Even though his contract only requires him to be in the building twice a month, he voluntarily comes into the building weekly and remains actively involved far beyond contracted hours. In addition, he has personally covered costs out of his own pocket to ensure students have what they need, demonstrating an exceptional level of dedication that is rarely seen. His ability to bridge student needs with staff capacity has strengthened our building climate, increased instructional time, reduced student referrals, and improved both student outcomes and adult confidence. Shawn has become an invaluable asset to our school community and is a living example of servant leadership in action. I confidently and wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Harper for continued work in student development, behavioral support, and professional learning. His character, investment, and leadership bring tremendous value to any educational environment.

In April 2023, Shawn Harper was our keynote speaker at our Lean Rocket Lab LOCAL Fundraising program. I had originally heard Shawn speak at another event that I had attended in 2019 and was amazed by his passion for winning and knew he was the right speaker for our event. The Lean Rocket Lab LOCAL program is geared toward growing and strengthening our community’s entrepreneurs and small businesses by helping owners gain access to capital in the form of a small business loan program and resources to help their businesses be successful. The audience at the event was remarkably diverse including representatives from small and large businesses, schools, community leaders, and more. Shawn held a special session for our program participants before his main presentation. Shawn Harper presented for our John Carroll students on April 10, 2025, “From Locker Room to Life.” We most wanted to reach students and student athletes who may struggle to acknowledge and face mental health struggles, letting them know that they can talk with others, seek help, and be well. Most of our football team came, as well as other athletes and students. Shawn spoke from the heart and also shared specific skills and strategies he uses to win the “inner game” of life! I was up front and was able to see all these guys listening intently, making great eye contact with Shawn, and then getting out their notebooks to write down what he was saying. His genuineness and heart really reached them. He was able to break down ways to get through tough times, stay strong, and get back on track after disappointment. His stories and wording were inspiring. I would recommend Shawn to other colleges and universities where students may try to shoulder their burdens on their own. The Fischer Homes BASECAMP training program is designed to develop our Co-Ops and Interns and immerse them in the company culture as they begin their career within the organization.
