About Iraq

  • Iraq has been heavily featured in the media the past twenty years which is largely because of former president Saddam Hussein who rose to power in 1979, founding a cruel totalitarian regime.
  • Hussein committed crimes of ethnic cleansing within his own country and when, in 1991, he invaded Kuwait, the regime was forced to back down. In 2003 American and Allied forces invaded Iraq, primarily based on a fear of nuclear weapons, thus ending Saddam Hussein’s regime.
  • Keynote speakers on Iraq typically focus on the history and culture of the country and its role in foreign affairs. Some keynote speakers might also choose to present personal stories based on visits to the country, such as journalists and so on.
