Ash truly did such an amazing job and her presentation really resonated with so many people, even folks I thought would be a bit resistant! She came to our social event on Tuesday night and I introduced her around to some of our leadership and employees posted around the world – the next day in her presentation she threw in so many little details she’d gleaned from conversations the night before. This showed to so many that she made an effort to understand the organization and our people and framed her presentation in a way that connected to the audience. She also sat through quite a few of the morning presentations (to include a very detailed and legal heavy hour-long presentation) – again showing she really wanted to get to know the organization. I had many participants and quite a few of our leadership come up to me after the event to tell me they were so grateful I was able to book Ash for this. We hope to have her come back for the next leadership forum in two years!

When it comes to addressing the things that matter most to any company’s diversity and inclusion efforts, adding an Ash Beckham TED Talk video is not just an effective supplement to your core message. Ash Beckham’s words are your core message that you can then build a workshop or presentation around. Ash beautifully arranged these separate stories to drive and support each major point she was making as her slides progressed. Even better, Ash did all this without sacrificing any of her authenticity. We trusted her and she trusted us.

Exactly what we were hoping for when we reached out to you. She was engaging, tailored a bit to the brainy Lockheed crowd, and did a lot of chatting with attendees at lunch. We were so thrilled to have her as part of our event.

Keynotes

Keynote by Ash Beckham:

How to Have Hard Conversations

Tapping into your own authenticity is the first step

Every person has the power to communicate and connect authentically. If you can do that, you begin to establish TRUST. And trust turns into more abundance, more collaboration, more success.

What people don’t realize is in order to get clear and make connections with people, we first need to understand HOW to discover our own truth, and share it with others in a way that resonates. And this must be accomplished in a professional and time-efficient manner.

Ash will present a framework for quick, authentic communication as she takes the audience on an interactive journey to first understand self, and then connect with others.

This method helps people experience the difference between expressing thoughts, feelings and desires - in real-time. When people learn to communicate from all three places, we are showing up as the most authentic version of ourselves.

Takeaways:

  •  Authentically communicate thoughts, feelings and desires
  • Use storytelling for deeper interpersonal connection
  • Feel more clear and confident with who they are empowering them to show up as their true self consistently
  • Increase trust among co-workers, colleagues and customers
  • Make stronger connections with people in a shorter amount of time

Step Up

Mastering Everyday Leadership

Anyone can be great once. How can we lead every day in everything we do? When we find the power of our unique version of leadership, those core principles are the same whether we are talking to our client, our boss, our child or the barista behind the counter. The way we do anything is the way we do everything. In order to lead every day, in everything we do, we must identify, practice and improve our particular leadership style.

In this humorous and relatable talk, Ash outlines the 8 pillars of everyday leadership – Empathy, Responsibility, Courage, Grace, Individuality, Humility, Patience and Authenticity. By sharing personal stories, extracting universal messages and presenting the audience with challenges that are both plausible yet outside of our comfort zones, Ash motivates the audience to both strive to be a better version of themselves and make tangible plans to get there.

Takeaways:

  • Understand the 8 pillars of Everyday Leadership and how to practice them
  • Identify and enhance your individual leadership brand
  • Examine your leadership growth opportunities and design strategies to broaden your leadership tool kit.

Give Voice to Your Truth

Finding the courage to speak your mind is just the first step

In a world of 6 second videos and 140 character tweets, sometimes we don’t take the time to think about the words we use—or the impact those words have on other people. With a blend of personal stories and relatable antidotes, Ash unpacks how word choice affects people. She helps you understand the need for inclusive language in so many aspects of our lives—everyday conversation, institutional forms, policy initiatives.

Someone may not feel like a word or phrase or lack of inclusive language affects them if they are not in the marginalized group. But, it is critical to find the empathy in other people’s struggles in order to create a stronger community. That empathy is most easily discovered when we begin listening to each other’s stories and we know what it is like walk a mile, or even just a couple steps, in someone else’s shoes.

Takeaways:

  • Understand the impact our words can have on others
  • Examine our biases that stop us from using inclusive language
  • Recognize situations where we can serve as active allies
