After playing two years at the University of Louisville and a national championship run at the University of Akron, Kotaro signed his first ever professional soccer contract for Joinville Esporte Clube in Brazil to become the first ever Asian-Athlete for the organization.

Former midfielder for Joinville Esporte Clube and a current author and public speaker, is a first-generation immigrant from Tokyo, Japan, where he’s had the experience of overcoming multiple obstacles during his life including racism, bullying, moving from country to country, injuries, sports complications, and much more. All this to eventually become the first ever Asian Athlete for Joinville Esporte Clube and standing on the other side of the obstacles with great succes.
Outside of sports, he’s the brand ambassador for the United Way of Greater Cleveland. He is an author, who has published the book, I’m with You: Attempt the Impossible, where 100% of all proceeds have been donated to the company to help families in need and fight poverty and racism. The proceeds have provided over 12,000 nutritious meals to families in need in the Greater Cleveland area.
