Book Tim Hames for your event

Tim Hames is an internationally recognised speaker, political analyst, author and strategic adviser whose career has been built around understanding the relationship between politics, business and global affairs. Drawing on decades of experience across academia, journalism, financial services and consultancy, he provides audiences with clear, thought-provoking perspectives on the political and economic forces reshaping the world.

Whether speaking to business leaders, investors, financial institutions or professional service firms, Tim translates complex geopolitical developments into practical insights that help organisations prepare for change and make better strategic decisions. His presentations combine intellectual depth with an engaging delivery style, making complicated international issues accessible, relevant and highly actionable.

From Oxford academic to influential political commentator

Tim began his career as a Prize Research Fellow in American Studies at Nuffield College, Oxford University, where he specialised in American politics and UK government. His academic background provided the foundation for a lifelong interest in political institutions, leadership and international relations.

He later joined The Times, where he served as Assistant Editor, Chief Leader Writer and weekly political columnist. During his time at the newspaper, he also regularly edited the publication as a whole. This experience placed him at the centre of British political debate while allowing him to analyse major global events and their wider implications.

It was also during this period that Tim developed a deep interest in the rise of China and the internal workings of the Chinese Communist Party. That expertise continues to shape much of his work today, particularly around the evolving relationship between China, the United States and the global economy.

Politics, business and geopolitical risk

Following his journalism career, Tim moved into the corporate world, first serving as Head of Communications and Public Affairs before becoming Director General of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), one of the UK's leading business organisations.

Representing members ranging from global investment firms such as Blackstone, The Carlyle Group and KKR to innovative venture capital businesses, he developed extensive knowledge of private equity, venture capital and international investment. This experience also gave him an exceptional network across the financial and corporate community.

Today, Tim works with organisations ranging from some of the world's largest financial institutions and leading professional service providers to ambitious technology companies with unicorn potential. As co-founder and partner at Acuti Associates, he advises clients on domestic political developments, geopolitical uncertainty and strategic risk, helping businesses understand how international events can affect investment, operations and long-term planning.

Bestselling author on Trump, China and global affairs

Tim is also an acclaimed author whose books explore some of the defining geopolitical issues of our time.

In 2022, he co-authored The Long Shot: The Inside Story of the Race to Vaccinate Britain with Dame Kate Bingham. The book was serialised in The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday and became a Sunday Times Business Book bestseller. It was also recognised as a "Best Book for Autumn" by The Times, a Financial Times Science Book of the Year and a MoneyWeek Politics Book of the Year.

In January 2025, Tim published Trump II: Why He Won. What It Means For The World, examining the return of Donald Trump to the presidency and accurately predicting many of the restored President's early actions and their international consequences.

His latest book, War or Peace? The United States and China, 2026–2049, published in October 2026, explores one of the defining geopolitical relationships of the twenty-first century and the choices that will shape global stability for decades to come. His forthcoming book, Second Coming: Trump II Part 1, is scheduled for publication in 2027.
