Marius Løken’s story starts in his home town Hemsedal where he grew up in calm and familiar surroundings. Once he finished High School he moved to Oslo, to his 86-year-old grandmother. He was striving to become a marketer at BI (Norwegian Business school). Joining him in Oslo, he had four of his closest childhood friends.
Everything went smoothly until one night in October 2011. One of his best friends went into an acute psychosis and attacked Marius and his close friend, Andreas, with a knife.
Andreas was killed and Marius luckily escaped in a taxi, after the battle of his life and 20 stab wounds to the upper body. The injuries resulted in three operations and 11 days in a coma. After he gained his consciousness the story was everywhere in the newspapers: the Halloween murder, the witnesses, the quarrel, “God” written on the wall in blood. The case became a big and tragic story. Marius lost two of his closest friends and endured severe physical injuries as well as mental trauma that night.
After that night Marius vicious spiral that he couldn’t escape.
After a long battle against inner voices, poor health, and follow-up visits from several psychologists and professionals, Marius was ready to take his life back. The process involved extensive training and a mental adjustment.
In 2016, Marius Løken published the book “A night in October” (together with Marit Aalrust and Cappelen Damm). His aspiration with this book was to highlight and share his knowledge on the topics of psychosis and mental health.
