Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE stands as one of the most influential figures in technology and social impact today. As the CEO of Stemettes and Chair of the Institute for the Future of Work, she works at the intersection of innovation, education, and equality. Her work focuses on reshaping the technology landscape to ensure it reflects and serves a broader, more diverse society.
Recognised early as a prodigy, Anne-Marie’s journey began with exceptional academic achievements. She passed her A-level computing at the age of 11, setting the tone for a career defined by curiosity, drive, and excellence. By 20, she had completed a Master’s degree at the University of Oxford, specialising in mathematics and computer science.
Anne-Marie’s professional experience includes roles at major global organisations such as Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard, and Deutsche Bank. These roles gave her deep insight into the inner workings of the tech and financial sectors, as well as the systemic challenges that limit diversity within them.
In 2013, she co-founded Stemettes, an award-winning social enterprise designed to inspire and support young people, particularly girls, into STEM careers. Since its launch, Stemettes has reached more than 65,000 individuals through workshops, mentoring programmes, and events. The initiative has become a powerful force for change, helping to close the gender gap in technology and engineering.
As Chair of the Institute for the Future of Work, Anne-Marie plays a key role in shaping conversations around how technology is transforming employment, skills, and society. Her insights explore the evolving relationship between humans and machines, and how organisations can adapt responsibly and inclusively.
In 2025, she took on the role of Women in Tech Envoy for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. In this position, she co-chairs a Taskforce alongside the Secretary of State, driving national efforts to increase representation and opportunity for women in technology.
Anne-Marie is also a published author. Her book, She’s In CTRL (2022), encourages women to take ownership of their place within the tech world. It blends personal experience with practical advice, offering a fresh and empowering perspective on navigating the digital age.
Her presence extends across major media platforms. She has appeared as the Arithmetician on Countdown and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and featured in the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. She also hosted the Women Tech Charge podcast, where she explored the experiences of women in technology.
As an interviewer, Anne-Marie has engaged in conversations with globally recognised figures including Sir Lewis Hamilton and Jack Dorsey. Her ability to connect, question, and draw out meaningful insights makes her a compelling communicator both on stage and on screen.
Anne-Marie’s contributions have been widely recognised. She was awarded an MBE in 2017 for her services to young women and STEM sectors. She has also received eight honorary doctorates, reflecting her impact across education, technology, and society.
In addition, she has served as President of the British Science Association (2022–2023), further cementing her role as a leading advocate for science and innovation in the UK and beyond. She also holds the position of Chancellor at Glasgow Caledonian University, supporting the next generation of graduates as they step into a rapidly changing world.
