David Lammy MP is one of Britain's most experienced political figures, having served as Foreign Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. With a political career spanning more than two decades, he has been closely involved in some of the most consequential domestic and international challenges facing the United Kingdom.
In 2025, David Lammy became the first person of colour to serve as the UK's Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. His appointment followed his tenure as Foreign Secretary, during which he helped shape Britain's diplomatic response to major international crises and changing geopolitical relationships.
As a speaker, David Lammy draws on his experience at the heart of British government to explore global politics, diplomacy, leadership and the responsibilities of public office. His presentations offer audiences an understanding of how decisions are made when political, economic and security interests collide.
Â
During his time as UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy travelled to more than fifty countries, representing Britain through a period of heightened international uncertainty. His diplomatic responsibilities included responding to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the war in Gaza, escalating tensions across the Middle East, confrontation with Iran and strategic competition with China.
He coordinated critical British support for Ukraine, contributing to the landmark 100 Year Partnership between the two countries. He also pioneered efforts to reset the UK's relationship with the European Union, seeking renewed cooperation following Brexit.
Working alongside France and Germany, Lammy helped trigger the United Nations snapback mechanism to reimpose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme. His established relationships across the Atlantic also played an important role in his approach to international diplomacy and cooperation.
These experiences provide the foundation for his speaking engagements on international relations, crisis management and the challenges of maintaining diplomatic partnerships in an increasingly fragmented world.
Â
A central initiative during David Lammy's tenure as Foreign Secretary was the UK's landmark China Audit, a cross-government reassessment of Britain's relationship with Beijing. The review examined security, trade, technology and human rights, reflecting the complexity of relations between major global powers.
Presenting its findings to Parliament, Lammy outlined his doctrine of progressive realism, advocating cooperation where national interests align, challenges where they diverge and competition where necessary.
He became only the second British Foreign Secretary in six years to visit Beijing, holding extensive discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Lammy also placed emerging technologies at the centre of his foreign policy agenda. At the United Nations Security Council, he addressed the role of artificial intelligence in international security, emphasising the importance of ensuring that AI strengthens peace, stability and democratic institutions.
For organisations navigating geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption and international business relationships, David Lammy offers perspectives on the intersection of technology, diplomacy and global power.

Keynote by David Lammy MP:
The relationship between the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe finds itself in a new and less predictable era. Trade tensions, renewed protectionism, conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East, and intensifying strategic competition with China have exposed the fragility of the assumptions that underpinned the post-Cold War order.Â
As UK Foreign Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister, David worked at the heart of Britain's engagement with Washington, helped reset relations with Europe, maintained international support for Ukraine, and led the UN snapback of sanctions on Iran's nuclear programme alongside France and Germany. Â
He offers a rare insider's account of the decisions shaping the transatlantic alliance, the future of Western security and the implications for leaders navigating an increasingly fragmented global economy.
Keynote by David Lammy MP:
Across Britain, the United States and democracies worldwide, public debate is more polarised than ever, confidence in institutions is declining and the space for serious disagreement is under strain. Few statesmen have confronted this shift as directly as David.
Drawing on his experience at the highest levels of government, David examines the forces reshaping political discourse: identity, inequality, the speed and reach of digital media, economic insecurity and a growing sense that established institutions no longer listen.
He also considers what leaders must do to restore confidence in democratic life, make the case for common purpose and rebuild relationships and institutions capable of holding disagreement without deepening distrust.
