As “The Happiness Speaker” keynote speaker Frederika Roberts has had great success with her inspirational keynote speeches and lively, highly interactive workshops. Her openness, humour and positive outlook help her audiences become happier, more resilient and more successful at achieving both their personal goals and their business aspirations.

Frederika is a Professional Speaker, certified Laughter Yoga Leader and Co-Founder of the ‘RWS Resilience Wellbeing Success’ programme*.  Through her keynotes and workshops, she helps individuals and organisations by changing and challenging thinking and behaviour with very simple, easy-to-implement happiness and resilience techniques.

Peppered with a sprinkling of culinary references, gentle humour and a real zest for life, her sessions are insightful, thought provoking and emotionally charged, yet lively and upbeat. Frederika has worked in recruitment, education, marketing and food, and has set up and run small businesses.  As an expert in her field, she has been interviewed on ITV Calendar News, BBC and other radio stations all over the UK, and featured and quoted in various publications, including The Guardian. Frederika is also a guest blogger for Huffington Post UK and author of the book ‘Recipe for Happiness: 9 Essential Ingredients for a Happy Life’.

Born in Italy, of dual Italian and German nationalities, she grew up in Luxembourg, then moved to the UK in 1990 to study at the University of Bradford. After obtaining her BSc Honours in Business and Management, Frederika undertook post-graduate studies in education and became a qualified teacher.

    Frederika helps:

    • Leaders ensure their employees are happy and resilient, resulting in more productive workplaces with lower staff turnover and absenteeism, and a culture of ‘bounce-back-ability’.
    • Individuals work on their own happiness and resilience, so that they can enjoy life more and be more successful in all aspects of their lives, bouncing back from setbacks and moving forward with a positive outlook.
    • Teachers to work on their own resilience and happiness so they are able to better support their pupils while also ensuring they have a good work/life balance themselves.
    • Children learn essential happiness and resilience techniques, understanding that everyone encounters obstacles in life but that it is possible to overcome these and thrive in all areas of life.

Frederika is available to deliver keynote speeches and lively, highly interactive workshops to businesses, not-for-profit organisations and schools (pupil sessions and teacher training / CPD days). Rather than have a list of ‘set’ keynote speeches and workshops, Frederika tailors the titles and contents of her sessions to her audiences.

*The RWS | Resilience Wellbeing Success Programme is a very successful programme for schools, which typically runs over 9-11 weeks, but can also be delivered as a bespoke half- or full-day workshop for businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

Interview with Frederika Roberts

What is happiness if you were to describe it?

I believe happiness to be an inner sense of well-being – of feeling grounded and secure in who we are, our values and our beliefs. This allows us to enjoy the little and big moments that make up our lives and to overcome even the most difficult or traumatic of challenges.

What makes your keynotes unique?

I believe my uniqueness lies in my story, the food metaphors I use throughout and my ‘Italian-ness’ (I have been known to burst into Italian during my keynote!).

Ultimately, the question is best answered by my audiences, who often comment on my passion and the fact that I seem to ‘ooze’ happiness from every pore.

What message do you hope audiences walk away with?

Believing that happiness is a choice – ‘a deliberate state of mind’ – and that, having made that choice, it is up to each of us to work on our own happiness. This goes hand-in-hand with an understanding of why it is important to work on our happiness; for our health, our longevity and our success in business and life in general (by whatever definition we wish to apply to ‘success’).

Do you have a favourite experience from your speaking career?

There are so many fantastic moments; it’s difficult to choose just one. What I love about what I do is that it makes a difference to people’s lives.

From those that told me that they returned to work full of energy and enthusiasm and were much more productive after my keynote, to the person who realised they may be suffering from PTSD and sought professional help as a result of hearing me speak, to a delegate that took the time to write to me weeks after my keynote to let me know that they were happier after having implemented some of my ‘happiness ingredients’, the list goes on.

How does humour factor into your presentations?

I have always found humour in even the most challenging times in my life. When I tell my emotional story, which often brings audience members to tears, I pepper my story telling with humour. I tell the funny anecdotes and sometimes ludicrously comical events that made me laugh in some of my darkest moments. I also don’t take myself too seriously and this comes through in my presentations with light touches of self-deprecating humour.
