Adam Hart-Davis is a freelance writer and broadcaster – presenter on television of Local Heroes, What the Romans (and others) Did for Us, World, How London was Built, The Cosmos – a beginner’s guide, and many others. He has received various awards for both television and radio, as well as two medals and 14 honorary doctorates.

He has written approximately 30 books, including Test your psychic powers, and Thunder, flush, & Thomas Crapper (an encycLOOpedia). His latest books are Stringlopedia, Science – the definitive visual guide, The book of time, and Engineers. He has also written numerous newspaper and magazine articles, and writes a regular column in the Radio Times.

In addition to writing books, Adam spends a lot of time making chairs, tables, bowls, egg cups, and spoons out of green wood. Adam is a member of the Association of Pole-Lathe Turners and the British Toilet Association, and is a keen supporter of the charities WaterAid, Sustrans, Practical Action,  and the Joliba Trust.
