Nava’s international (Iranian, American, and Australian) upbringing and the Bahá’í Faith have led her to be an activist for education and human rights. She is particularly passionate about youth empowerment and is currently awaiting publication of her globally pre-tested educational curriculum, Purify My Heart. The curriculum aims to address behavioral aspects of drugs, alcohol, and sexuality while empowering youth to recognize the significance of their actions as transformers of their society.
Nava has studied both Commerce (Curtin University) and Journalism (Harvard University), and she holds a Master of Science in Comparative Politics (the London School of Economics and Political Science). In her academic research, Nava tests her theories on a relationship between existing levels of human insecurity and subsequent acts of (what has been identified as) radical political Islamic terrorism.
Nava Ghalili was one of the youngest news anchors in the history of American television and she has tackled just about every job in the newsroom. She has worked at affiliates of CBS in the Midwest and FOX on the East Coast with stories airing nationally. Her own writing has also been published by various media outlets including the Huffington Post.
The human-interest series which Nava created, produced and hosted, Pay it Forward, was nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in 2012. She has since appeared in several documentaries, interviewed high-profile politicians and continues to report LIVE from breaking national news.
Nava serves as a consultant in the restructuring of international media organizations that aim to empower the voice of underrepresented populations. As a human rights activist, she frequently works with NGO’s aiming to tackle social injustice particularly those related to youth, women and education. Nava is also on the Board of Advisors for the Mona Foundation, which supports both the academic education and moral empowerment of children around the world, especially girls.
