He is the former President of The Hospital Corporation of Chicago, the former National Accounts Sales Manager for The Masonite Corporation and a former candidate for the United States Senate.

His books include “The Global Sales Professional” and “Uncommon Sense Leadership”, and he has published over one hundred business articles. Tom Faranda has the credibility and experience audiences respect and demand in a featured speaker. He has earned a BS, an MBA in International Business and a Doctorate( abd). He has been a guest lecturer for universities in South Africa, the UK, Australia and was an adjunct faculty professor of business at the University of Minnesota.

He donates his time as a board member for several music and theatre arts organizations in the Phoenix area.

Interview with Tom Faranda

What is the message you hope people take away from your presentations?

I want people to understand that everyone has a different world view as we each see the world through our own ‘looking glass’, which is colored by culture, upbringing and education. I want them to know that most major world problems can be solved by creating a ‘win-sin’ world view and helping each country get what they need and want to be successful.  Success changes the world. Success is based on mutual understanding and cooperation.

Do you have a favorite experience from your speaking career?

Three of my favorite speaking experiences are from Africa, China and India.

  • In China, I was asked to be the keynote speaker for the ministers meeting, one of the highest level meetings ever held in China.  I was also give permission to stay the entire week and listen to the ministerial speeches on China’s future. From this I learned much of what is planned for China to share with my clients.
  • In S. Africa, where I worked for several years, I was often the only white man that was asked to be the keynote speaker for the major black business conventions as they felt I understood their culture and history and ways of conducting business.
  • In India, I was hired to speak to CEO’s on business growth, profit and leadership.  I spoke in seven cities around India.  They asked me to write a book summarizing my teachings to these executives and publish it in India, which I did, called “The Faranda Maxims”.

How do you prepare for speaking engagements?

My preparation is legendary.

  • First, I prepare daily by reading several key sources, mostly from the internet and email contacts with high level CEO’s in countries around the world.
  • Second, I prepare specifically for the client’s meeting by interviewing them to insure I understand what THEY WANT as the outcome of my speech.
  • Third, I customize my speech so their people realize I understand their industry, company and country. In this step, I add my Faranda Forecasts of what is going to happen around the world in the next ten years and how it impacts them.
  • Fourth, I create a specific, custom speech and prepare key notes which I use to cue my mind and stay on track. Finally, I add appropriate humor and examples and stories to exemplify my major points.

What types of experiences influence your message and speeches?

My work is influenced by my knowledge of working and living around the world and by the global senior-management connections I have in so many countries. It is also affected by my experiences of climbing many of the major mountains around the world and living in those cultures during that climbing experience. Finally, it is influenced greatly by friends from around the world who correspond with me and help me understand their world view.

How are your keynote presentations unique?

My keynotes show people what is going to happen around the world in the next ten years–why, when, how, where and much more.  No one else does this in the same manner that I do.  It is very important for any successful executive in any country of the world to have this information as a basis for his/her growth and profit plan for their organization.

How much does humor factor into your keynotes and other speaking engagements?

I use a combination of humor, examples and stories to bring my keynotes to life.  The  ‘mix’ is created to exactly fit the audience based on my years of experience both as a keynote speaker and consultant on growth and profit.

What are some of the business trends you see emerging within the next ten years?

Major business trends include how to make money in a world of shared power of five major countries rather than the USA being the only major power, a dangerous collapse of the EU and the EURO,  a new ‘cold war’ with Russia,  a significant battle for raw materials, huge environmental issues due mostly to China and India’s terrible pollution practices,  another major battle over what ‘human rights’ actually means and how that affects business,  how business will re-create India and China and other huge population  countries, and much more.
